Water Polo sweeps CWPA Weekend 4-0
- Water Polo had a tremendous weekend, with four conference wins over three colleges for a 7-1 CWPA record, earning them the second seed for conference championships.
- The first match was an offensive showout Friday night against Penn State Behrend at Washington & Jefferson’s Henry Memorial Natatorium in Washington, Pa. that ended 20-7. Macalester’s six goals in the first quarter gave them a lead they wouldn’t lose. Jess Palmer Sammons ’26 led the team with four scores, and Mak Kratz ’28 and Reese Winegar ’29 each landed three.
- On Saturday, the Scots faced the Washington & Jefferson Presidents, and impeached them 11-10. The teams traded goals, but the Scots held strong to eke out the win. Eight different Scots scored, with Palmer Sammons again leading the team with three goals.
- That afternoon, they faced Connecticut College. The Camels made a push in the third with five goals, but wouldn’t get over the hump after Macalester scored six in the fourth for a 15-10 win. Winegar led the team with four, and Lorelai Bell ’26 found the net three times.
- They’d top off the weekend Sunday morning with a 14-1 blowout win against Wheaton College (Mass.). Wheaton wouldn’t be able to score until the fourth quarter, which was too little too late.
- The team will aim to keep this momentum at the conference championships on April 10.

Baseball sweeps Olaf, splits with Scholastica
- Baseball had an impressive showing on Saturday against St. Olaf in their MIAC Opener, winning the first game 17-10 and the second 8-7. In the first game a 14 run inning highlighted a massive Scot comeback — the Scots trailed by as much as seven.
- Then, they “hosted” College of St. Scholastica, whose home field in Duluth, Minn. wasn’t suitable for baseball yet.
- Game one was a 5-4 walkoff loss but the Scots bounced back for a 3-2 win in a game two pitchers dual.
Softball smashes MIAC Opener
- Softball swept a doubleheader against St. Scholastica on Monday afternoon at the Macalester Softball Complex.
- In the first game, after getting two runs in the first inning, the Saints wouldn’t make it home again. Macalester ran away with it to win 7-2. Standout performances included Safiya Butler ’28, who had two runs and three hits at four at-bats, and Alli Johnson ’27, who went two-for-two at the plate and batted in three runs.
- The second game went even better: the Saints’ two runs were dwarfed by the Scot’s 13. Four runs in the first set the game’s tone, and that lead would be built up to seven before the end of the third.
- There was no rest for Scholastica — already down five by the seventh, Tess Bojorquez ’27 brought Martha Miller ’27 home and Ally Wolf ’28 batted in Elizabeth Welch ’27 to drop the Saints down seven. A three-run homer by Callia Holland ’27 dropped the hammer, and the Scots won 13-2 on a mercy ruling.
- The team also played non-conference matches over the weekend, splitting a doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin River-Falls.
- The first game was an 8-0 loss, but the Scots snuck out a 2-1 comeback win in the second game with a homer from Johnson and an extra-inning sacrifice fly by Bojorquez to bring Miller home.
