Dear Reader, Thank you for reading the Sports section this year! Whether you flipped through a TWIS or read every article back to front, we appreciate your readership. This was an amazing year for Scot athletics, both on and off the field. We saw an NCAA tournament run, water polo return atop the CWPA, one of the best baseball seasons in recent memory and football even won a game! Macalester athletics is thriving; next year will be even better. - The Scots then made a Sunday trip to Duluth, Minn. to take on the College of St. Scholastica. A win would clinch a MIAC playoff berth.
- The team delivered, winning the dual 4-3 and securing their playoff berth in dramatic fashion.
- Despite a win at number one doubles for Mac, the Saints rallied and took the doubles point with back-to-back wins.
- The Scots finished fifth in the MIAC with a 10-8 record overall and a 5-5 mark in conference play. They secured a matchup with fourth-seed Saint Catherine University on Tuesday.

Baseball officially into MIAC playoffs
- The Macalester baseball team officially secured its berth to the MIAC playoffs on Saturday, thanks to a St. Olaf College loss. They return to the tournament for the first time since 2018, when they lost a first-round game to St. Thomas.
- The tournament will be held May 7-9, as the Scots currently hold second place. They sit two games behind conference leader Bethel University.
- This week held a pair of nonconference games against the University of Minnesota-Morris (UMM) and Bethany Lutheran College (BLC).
- The Scots lost to UMM on Saturday afternoon, 6-5, despite holding the lead through seven innings. The game was played at Concordia-St. Paul due to scheduling conflicts at Macalester.
- In their final non-conference matchup of the season on Monday, the Scots lost to BLC 10-3 despite Raymond McCaskey’s ’26 100th career hit, a single in the top of the fourth inning. The Scots got behind 6-0 early and couldn’t muster a rally.
- Macalester then swept Augsburg University at home for Senior Day, with two one-run victories. In the first game, Ben King ‘26 pitched four scoreless innings and earned the win. The final was 2-1. Game two was a barnburner, with the Scots winning 17-16.
- Next up for the Scots is the final doubleheader of the season, a twogame set against Hamline University at CHS Field in St. Paul. First pitch is set for 6:30 pm. CHS Field is the home of the St. Paul Saints, triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. It is also the host stadium for the MIAC playoffs.
Softball breaks five-game skid, still drops the week
- The softball team had a busy weekend, hosting a doubleheader each on Saturday and Sunday.
- The team also played a makeup game against Hamline, resuming with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning after the contest was postponed due to rain on April 11.
- The Scots dropped the opener to St. Catherine, 13-3. The Wildcats opened a 4-0 lead that the Scots cut to 4-3 in the fifth on an RBI single from Martha Miller ’26. However, they wouldn’t get any closer. St. Kate’s added nine runs over the final two frames and put the Scots in the rearview.
- The pressure was on in game two as the Scots now faced a fourgame losing streak. Miller met the moment, allowing only three runs (one earned) with four strikeouts in a complete game effort. The bats got going too: Ally Wolf ’28 had a two-run double to get the lead back in the bottom of the first, and Dylan Tapia ’28 added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth, smoking a double to the gap to make it 7-3.
- But Carleton stymied the Scots. The offense was shut out in game one, recording just three hits in a 3-0 loss. The second game was closer, still a 5-4 loss. The Scots had the winning run on second base in the f inal frame, but couldn’t get the runner home.
- Mac took the anger from the sweep into the postponed Hamline game on Tuesday. The game was tied 4-4 with two outs in the home half of the fifth when they picked up, and the Scots won by a final of 124. They scored one in the sixth and generated an offensive power surge in the seventh, scoring seven.

- The team headed off to Duluth, Minn. to play the College of Saint Scholastica (CSS) on Sunday for their final game of the year. The dual was win or go home, with the winning team advancing to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs and the loser done for the season.
