Two Macalester teams hit the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) postseason this spring: baseball and women’s tennis.
A 4-3 win over the College of St. Scholastica earned the women’s tennis team a spot in the MIAC playoffs. The team has seen dramatic improvement since last season. Their 5-5 in-conference record dwarfs 2024-25’s 1-9 record. Led by seniors Savannah Haugen ’26, Elizabeth Trevathan ’26 and Sedona Crosby ’26, it’s the team’s first playoff appearance with new head coach Chase Johnson. The team fell 4-1 to St. Catherine University in the semifinals, ending their post-season run.
Macalester’s baseball team has also seen a dramatic improvement in its record since last season, finishing 12-4 in conference compared to last season’s 5-15 record. Only 16-2 Bethel University is above them in the standings. Macalester split a doubleheader against the Royals earlier in the season. This is the Scots’ first playoff appearance since 2018, and their first game will kick off on May 7. Scots to watch include MIAC Player of the Week John McMurray ’29 and Raymond McCaskey ’26, who reached 100 career hits on Monday.
