Kashatus advances to diving NCAA Nationals
- Ainsley Kashatus ’29 is off to Indianapolis, Ind. for the NCAA Division III Diving Championships from March 18-21!
- Last Friday and Saturday, she competed at the NCAA Diving Regionals in Kalamazoo, Mich.
- After a 21st place finish Friday on the 1-meter board, Kashatus secured her spot with a fifth place finish on the 3-meter board. Kashatus’ Saturday score of 426.00 was enough to qualify her for the meet.
Baseball series win in Texas; Matt Parrington gets 400th win
- T he hometown nine traveled to Belton, Texas for a three game set against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB), coming out with a series win.
- After flying in on Thursday night, they opened with a 7-4 win on Friday, Feb. 27 in incredible comeback fashion.
- After scoring one in the first on an RBI groundout, the Scots came up with six runs over their final six outs to secure the opener. Tristan Lander ’28 started the rally with an RBI single in the eighth, plating two. The Scots tied the game on a pinch hit double from Connor Davidson ’28.
- Jamie Loizeaux ’27 worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom half, making him the winning pitcher. The bats came alive again in the top of the ninth, adding three more.
- Ev an Kang ’26 slammed the door with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.
- A Saturday split handed the Scots the series. It was a high-scoring affair: the two games combined for 48 total runs.
- The Scots won game one 14-10, again via comeback, Loizeaux again the winning pitcher. John McMurray ’29 had four RBIs (on his way to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Player of the Week honors) and so did Isaiah Ramirez ’27, along with a double and a homer.
- The final game was a beatdown from UMHB, 17-7. The Crusaders 10-run mercy ruled the Scots after seven innings.
- On Wed. March 4, the Scots stepped onto the turf at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis for a doubleheader with the University of Minnesota-Morris. •
- ead coach Matt Parrington secured his historic 400th victory at the helm for the Scots in game one, 4-1. He is the program’s winningest head coach.
- While the Scots fell in game two, 5-3, there was still cause for celebration after the series split.
- Ben King ’26 picked up the winning decision in game one, pitching six one-run frames with six strikeouts.
- The Scots open their spring break against Dominican University on March 14 in Orlando, Florida
Women’s track and field places sixth in MIAC
- The women’s track and field team headed to Northfield for the MIAC indoor championships, held at Carleton College on Friday and Saturday.
- The Scots finished sixth overall, up a spot from a year ago.
- Mac had three individual All-MIAC performances on both days of competition, highlighted by Tessa Myatt ’27 repeating as shot put champion with a 13.22 meter throw and Ariella Rogahn-Press ’28 championing the 400 meters for her first MIAC crown.
- Myatt remains the only Scot to win the MIAC shot put — now for the second year in a row.
- Rogahn-Press broke both the MIAC record and the Carleton facility record for the 400 meters when she ran on Friday, coming across the line in 55.79.
- Rogahn-Press also broke a 38-year old school record in the 55 meter prelims on Saturday, chasing down Francene Young ’88 with a 7.24 time; she broke the record by one tenth of a second. The sprinter finished third in the final.
- Kate Fox ’28 also earned All-MIAC honors with her third-place finish in the mile, finishing in 5:05.07.
- Then, Fox anchored the second-place finish for the All-MIAC distance medley team. Aubrey Jensen ’29, Kyra Morris ’28, Hadley Wilkins ’26 and Fox ran a 12:30.35; second in school history.
- The Scots will send a team to the Wartburg Final Qualifier, Mar. 6-7 in Waverly, Iowa.
Women’s tennis sweeps Saturday
- The Scots took their third straight dual with a 7-0 blanking of the University of Northwestern (Minn.) Eagles.
- The Scots swept doubles and singles. They made quick work of the Eagles and continued a surprisingly strong start for the Mac tennis program following the abrupt coaching change just over a year ago.
- The Scots move to 3-2 on the season and take on Luther College in Rochester this week.
Men’s track and field gets seventh at MIACs
- Track and field closed the indoor half of their season with the MIAC indoor championships at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. on Friday and Saturday.
- The men tied for seventh out of twelve competing schools, with three athletes gaining All-MIAC recognition.
- John Ihrke ’28 finished second in the 1,000 meter run, just three-tenths of a second behind the winner and four-tenths behind his school record pace, which he set on the same track two weeks ago. He was recognized as All-MIAC for his second place finish.
- Tyler Edwards ’26 ran for second place in the 5,000 meter race.
- In the 3,000 meters, Quinn Hoisington ’27 took third place and All-MIAC honors while running the fifth-fastest time in school history.
- Austin Mills ’26 secured second place — and All-MIAC — in the weight throw, with a 17.10 meter toss.
- Ataa Mensah ’28 earned All-MIAC with a second place finish in the triple jump, leaping 14.14 meters – two inches off his personal best.
- Artur Porto ’28 took eighth in the shot put, recording a personal best 13.97 meter toss – the fourth longest in Mac history.
- The Scots will send a contingent to the Wartburg Final Qualifier Mar. 6-7 in Waverly, Iowa.
Softball splits before spring break
- The Scots softball team headed to the Rochester Dome in Rochester, Minn. for a doubleheader against Buena Vista University (BVU) and Luther College (LC) on March 1.
- The first game was an high scoring win, 10-4, with Dylan Tapia ’28 blowing it open with a two-run homer in the fifth inning. The Scots tacked on two more in the sixth and three in the seventh to run away from BVU.
- Four Scots homered in game one — Tess Bojorquez ’27, Martha Miller ’27 and Callia Holland ’27 all grabbed solo shots. Tapia also added a double and a single alongside her blast to finish three for three at the plate.
- In game two, the Scots took LC to the brink. They led 4-2 headed into the bottom of the seventh (and final) inning and recorded their first two outs in order.
- Miller had been fantastic on the mound, and the Norse had only scored in the fifth inning. She was one out away from a complete game and her second win of the day.
- But disaster struck: with one out to go, the Norse came up with a single, triple and another single to tie the game at four and send it to extra innings.
- The Scots then fell on a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth.
- Miller was credited with both decisions on the day: winning pitcher in game one and losing pitcher in game two.
- The Scots will get to business in Clermont, Florida on March 15 at The Spring Games against Amherst College.
Men’s tennis dispatches Northwestern Minn.
- Mac tennis continued its strong start with a decisive 6-1 win over the University of Northwestern (Minn.).
- In singles, the Scots dropped one match but won the other five in straight sets. They won the doubles point for the sixth.
- They will take on Luther College in Rochester next week before their spring break competitions.
