Women’s tennis sweeps the weekend
- Women’s tennis had an exceptional weekend, as it took down the Edgewood University Eagles on Friday and the Bethany Lutheran Vikings last Saturday.
- On Friday, the team squeaked by, winning 4-3 over all – all singles matches.
- The Scots continued their domination the next day, as they beat the Vikings 6-1, sweeping its singles matches.
- The team will hit the courts again on Friday against the University of Northwestern (Minn.) at the Baseline Tennis Center.
Men’s tennis aces the competition
- The men also had a great weekend against Edgewood and Bethany Lutheran.
- On Friday, they swept the Eagles 7-0 in singles and doubles matches.
- The men had a little more trouble than the women on Saturday, as they lost all three doubles matches, but they still bested Bethany Lutheran 5-2.
- Men’s tennis will also face the University of Northwestern (Minn.) on Friday.
Women’s basketball finishes the season 3-21
- Mac looked to continue their momentum from last week’s big MIAC W against Carleton on Senior Day Saturday against Hamline, the final game for Brooke Boroughs ’26, Ellie Corbett ’26 and Adi Megiddo ’26.
- Mary Daley ’27 was the only Scot in double figures, scoring 10 points.
- The Pipers took a 44-27 lead into half and didn’t look back, playing spoiler.
- The Pipers’ red-hot shooting, especially from behind the arc, proved to be too much for the Scots to handle. The Pipers finished 52 percent (12-of-23) from three en route to a 78-53 win.
- The Scots will have ten players returning to their roster next season.
Men’s basketball comes up short on Senior Day
- The Scots began the afternoon by celebrating the careers of Ryan Brush ’26 and Noah Shannon ’26.
- Mac came out firing. Early threes from Jamal Randle ’29 and big layups from Joaquin Aguillon ’28 kept the team neck and neck with the Pipers for most of the first half. Then, Hamline started to pull away, going into the break with a thirteen-point lead.
- The second half was more of the same, despite the best efforts of Brush and Shannon, who finished with 17 and 22 points, respectively.
- In the end, the Scots couldn’t stifle the Pipers’ high-scoring offense, losing 90-70.
- Shannon’s 22 points moved him into 17th on Macalester’s all-time scoring list, an excellent end to a legendary Macalester career.
- The Scots will return 11 players to the roster next year for Rich Gleesman’s second year at the helm.
Baseball stumbles in season opening
- This past weekend, the Scots traveled to Topeka, Kan. to face Loras College for a weekend series.
- They played two games on Friday, splitting them with a 6-5 loss and 10-2 win. They looked to steal the series on Saturday, but fell short 10-2.
- Raymond McCaskey ’26 was the best player on the diamond for the Scots this weekend, finishing 6 for 10 with two walks and three RBI.
- In game two of the three-game set, Caleb Chou-Green ’27 threw a gem, pitching five two-hit innings.
- The team will travel to Belton, Texas, this weekend for another three game set against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders.
Softball drops two against Wisconsin-Eau Claire
- The Scots looked to rebound after their Valentine’s Day loss when they took on the Blugolds this weekend.
- They came out firing in game one, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Blugolds responded quickly, tying the game in the bottom of the inning. The Scots kept fighting, and an Alli Johnson ’27 homer in the fourth inning gave the team a 5-4 lead. Unfortunately, the Blugolds plated 8 runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. The final score was 12-5.
- Game two was over much quicker; Wisconsin-Eau Claire led 6-0 after the 2nd. Dylan Tapia ’28 mashed a grand slam in the fourth making it a game again, but the Blugolds brought home two more runs in the fifth and ended up winning 9-5.
- The team will look to bounce back next weekend, when they will have a doubleheader against Buena Vista University and Luther College in Rochester.
Women’s swive takes on the Last Chance Invitational
- This past Saturday, the Scots swimmers finished their regular season at the Last Chance Invitational here at Macalester.
- Emma Henry ’26 set a school record in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:00.03.
- Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton ’26 finished second in the 100-yard IM in 1:03.68 and also won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:22.38.
Men’s swive also dive into Last Chance Invitational
- For the men, Kean Pajarillaga ’28 and Tilghman Overton ’28 were the standouts, finishing with times of 55.65 and 57.83, respectively, in the 100-yard individual medley.
Women’s track and field run wild at St. Olaf Tostrud Classic
- Several Scots won their races and field events this past Friday at St. Olaf.
- Ariella Rogahn-Press ’28 continued her dominance by winning the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.33.
- Kate Fox ’28 won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19:71, one weekend after winning both the 1000 meter and mile runs at the Meet of Hearts.
Men’s track and field shine with multiple tight victories at St. Olaf Tostrud Classic
- Donovan Connole ’29 narrowly won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58:63.
- Speaking of narrow victories, Quinn Hoisington ’27 won the mile heat by 0.1 seconds (he finished with a time of 4:22.52).
- In the field, Ataa Mensah ‘28 won the triple jump with a 13.90 meter leap.
- Art Porto ’28 threw the shot put nicely, placing fifth while losing by less than a meter (his put landed at 13.61 meters).
