Scots drop penultimate game
- The Macalester men’s basketball team took a trip up to Moorhead to face Concordia College, and despite a hard-fought game, they were clobbered by the Cobbers, returning to St. Paul after a 95-64 loss.

Javier Diaz ’29 dropped a team-leading 16 points on 6-11 shooting from the floor.

Noah Shannon ’26 also scored 14, adding 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

Macalester will host Hamline University next week on Saturday, Feb. 21, for their final game of the season.
Women’s Basketball picks up MIAC W

The Macalester women’s basketball team also traveled to Moorhead to take on the Concordia College Cobbers. Despite a strong second half, the Scots couldn’t recoup a sizable deficit and fell 49-77.

Cady Davis ’28 led the team with 11 points, shooting 5-7 from the floor and continuing her 3-game streak of double-digit scoring for the Scots.

In the penultimate game of their season, the Scots dominated Carleton College in a 81-51 win over the Knights.

Megan Matthews ’29 dropped a career high 15 points, with 3 rebounds and 3 assists to mark one of her strongest games of the season.

The Scots will host Hamline University 17-7 next weekend at home to close out their season.
Men’s Swim and Dive short of podium at MIACs
- On Wednesday, Feb. 11, the Scots started their 4-day MIAC championship meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The Scots swam an impressive 1:32.18 200-yard medley relay to grab second place courtesy of Will St. John ’26, Kean Pajarillaga ’28, Jack Schumacher ’28 and TJ Palli ’26.

Tommy Moore ’27 swam so well that his split broke the 34-year school record for the 200-yard freestyle.

The relays kept on coming for the Scots swim and dive on day two, with the 400-yard medley relay team of Pajarillaga, St. John, Moore, and Taufen finishing third in 3:26.55, again earning All-MIAC honors.

Continuing on day three, Moore placed second with a 1:42.70 in the 200-yard freestyle to earn All-MIAC status.

The 200-yard freestyle relay, composed of Casey Maretta ’26, Moore, Taufen, and Palli, placed second, breaking the school record with a 1:24.36 swim. The team was also awarded All-MIAC honors for their performance.

The Scots finished fourth overall at MIAC Championships, 26.5 points behind third-place.

The Scots will wrap the regular season with the Last Chance Invite at the Riley Pool on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Women’s Swim and Dive finishes strong
- The Scots opened their MIAC championships on Wednesday, Feb. 11th, at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center in Dinkytown.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Amalia Shields ’28, Maya Tellez ’28, Molly Nuckolls ’28 and Hannah Zurn ’26 secured second place, swimming a 7:44.63. They all earned All-MIAC honors.

The Scots had two top-three finishes in the 500-yard freestyle on day two, with Nuckolls swimming to grab second, and Zurn closely behind in third. Both swimmers received All-MIAC honors.

In the 200-yard Individual medley, Tellez continued her strong performance with a second-place finish to earn All-MIAC.

Senior standout Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton ‘26 continued her 3-year dominance in the 100-yard breaststroke by taking another MIAC title. She broke her own school record on the way to her third straight year winning the event.

Nadia Lanz ’26 swam to a third-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley, earning All-MIAC honors.

Uhlhorn-Thornton continued her dominance in breaststroke. She won the 200-yard breast in 2:20.99, setting a new program record.

Nuckolls swam a dominant 200-yard butterfly, swimming 2:08.63 and winning the event.

The Scots ended their Championship campaign in 4th place overall.

Mac looks to end the regular season on a high note, hosting the last chance meet at the Riley Pool on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Women’s Softball splits season-opener
- Macalester softball opened its long-awaited season on Feb. 14 with a doubleheader courtesy of the Dundas Dome in Dundas, Minn.

The Scots opened against the University of Wisconsin-Stout, winning their debut by a final of 2-1.

Macalester scored both its runs in the bottom of the fifth. Elizabeth Welch ’27 and Alli Johnson ’27 scored on a fielding error, erasing a 1-0 deficit.

Scots pitcher Martha Miller ’27 opened the season with a strong seven-inning performance, allowing seven hits, one earned run, three walks and seven strikeouts on 122 pitches.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Scots faced off against the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets, losing 7-4.

Macalester’s next games will happen just across the St. Croix River at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 20th.
Men’s Track & Field runs well over the weekend
- Macalester men’s track and field competed at the Meet of Hearts at Carleton College on Saturday, Feb. 14.

John Ihrke ’28 continued his fabulous season, winning the 1000m run and setting a new school record.

Donovan Connole ’29 also competed in the 1000m, grabbing fifth place with a 2:35.21, running the ninth fastest time in school history.

Henry Schonebaum ‘26 won the 800m run, continuing the Scots’ strong meet

Tyler Edwards ’26 took third in the 3000m run, with a 8:46.6,4, which ranks 10th in school history.

Sebastian Stefanowicz ’26 finished third in the 55m dash with a 6.63, fourth-best in program history, and finished second-place in the 55m hurdles with an 8.09, good for sixth fastest in school history.

Ataa Mensah ’28 took second place in the triple jump at 14.19, which ranks second highest in school history.

Austin Mills ’26 continued to flex in the weight throw, as he broke his own Macalester record again, throwing 17.25 and winning the event.

Artur Porto ’28 took second place in the shot put with a 13.77m mark.

The Scots will compete again off exit 69 in Northfield on Friday, Feb. 20th, this time at St. Olaf for the Tostrud Classic.
Women’s Track & Field runs well at Carleton
- The Macalester Women’s track and field team competed at the Meet of Hearts, hosted by Carleton College last Saturday, Feb. 14.

Kate Fox ’28 secured two big wins, taking the 1000m run with a 3:03.65 finish and the mile run with a 5:03.18 finish. Her mile was the third fastest in school history.

Eva Abreu ’29 continues to shine in her rookie season, winning the 400m dash in 1:00.11, the ninth fastest 400 in school history.

The Scots will return to Northfield, in the Tostrud Classic at St. Olaf, for their last meet before the MIAC championships.
