Women’s basketball drops two
- The Scots hosted Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday afternoon, and despite strong performances from Sydnee Smith’ 27 and Mary Daley ’27, fell 56-41.
- Smith and Daley combined for 30 points, but the Scots couldn’t get their other playmakers going despite keeping it close through the first quarter and winning the fourth quarter.
- The Gustie bench outscored the Scots’ 26-9, which proved to be the difference.
- Next up for the Scots was a trip to St. Joseph, Minn. for a MIAC matchup against the College of St. Benedict.
- The Scots pushed the Bennies to the brink, but couldn’t get away with the W against a rock-solid opponent. 72-68 was the final score.
- The team put up their second most points of the season and had four scorers in double digits, including Smith leading the team with 16 points.
- It was a very encouraging result for a young squad who have struggled in conference play this season.
- The Scots play next on Valentine’s Day, traveling to Moorhead, Minn. for a hoops doubleheader (alongside the men’s team) against the Concordia College (Minn.) Cobbers.
Men’s basketball hosts top ten team
- The Scots hosted eighth-ranked nationally Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, losing 91-58.
- The Gusties have yet to lose a MIAC game this year, and are 21-1 overall, so the Scots had their work cut out for them. It was 7-6 a few minutes in, but the Gusties flexed their nationally-ranked muscle with a 16-0 run, placing the Scots out of reach early.
- Owen Walther ’29 led the Scots with 12 points while Noah Shannon ’26 was held to just seven points. All of those came from beyond the arc on four three-pointers.
- Next on the schedule for the men’s hoops team was another Leonard Center MIAC matchup against the St. John’s College (SJC) Johnnies.
- The Scots kept this one close to the end, but the final scoreboard read 89-81 for a SJC win.
- Shannon was back leading the Scots with a huge 34 point performance, and 13 each from Joaquin Aguillon ’28 and Jamal Randle ’29 kept the Scots in striking distance.
- The Scots will journey next to Moorhead for a Valentine’s Day tilt against Concordia College (Minn.).
- It’s the Scots penultimate game of the 2025-26 season, as their schedule comes down the home stretch.
Men’s tennis drops opener, rebounds well
- The men’s tennis team kicked off its 2026 campaign with a 7-0 loss at the University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire.
- Despite not taking home a point, the Scots pulled out a victory in the first doubles match, with Jordan Doi ’26 and Charles Flaman ’29 taking the W.
- The Scots rebounded well from the year-opening loss, championing over the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point (UW-SP) in Bloomington, Minn. by a match score of 4-3.
- Doi and Flaman again took home the first doubles match, and the underclassman duo of Zach Dajani ’28 and Ezra Mahoney ’29 secured the doubles point for the Scots with a 6-3 victory in the final match.
- Doi and Flaman both won singles matches, which had the dual score at 3-3.
- In the final match of the day, Kangyu Li ’27 clinched the dual for the Scots with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win.
- Next up for the Scots is another non-conference dual versus Edgewood College on Feb. 20.
Women’s tennis loses opener
- The court Coos opened up the new year with a 5-2 defeat at the hands of UW-SP at a neutral site in Bloomington.
- The Scots won the initial point with wins in #2 and #3 doubles, but were unable to close out the meet.
- Elizabeth Trevathan ’26 won the lone singles match for the Scots with a 6-2, 6-3 performance.
- The Scots return to action on Feb. 20, with another non-conference dual against Edgewood College at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
Men’s swim and dive’s late-season performances
- The MIAC Championships started on Wednesday for the swim and dive teams, but since we go to print on Wednesday night, we don’t know what has happened yet. Instead, we bring you an update on your Scots headed down the stretch of the season.
- The men’s swimmers visited the University of Minnesota’s Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on Feb. 6 and 7 for the First Chance Meet, while the divers ventured to Northfield, Minn. for Carleton College’s Dodd Road Diving Invitational on Feb. 7.
- On the second day at the UMN, the Scots notched four swimmers in the top 10 in the 100-yard freestyle, led by TJ Palli ’26, who placed second with a time of 47.55.
- Will St. John ’26 joined Palli as Mac’s other second-place finisher of the weekend with his 2:14.21 performance in the 200-yard backstroke.
- At Carleton, Dylan Herlihy ’26 won the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 201.85 and 178.40, respectively.

Women’s swive on to MIACs
- The women’s swimmers likewise traveled to the University of Minnesota (UMN) for the First Chance Meet, and the women’s divers visited Carleton for the Dodd Road Diving Invitational.
- At the First Chance Meet on Feb. 6, Jay Young ’29 and Izzy Uhlhorn- Thornton ’26 each notched fourth-place finishes. Young did so in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:37.82, and Uhlhorn-Thornton completed the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.82. Uhlhorn-Thornton’s finish was the second-best time in the MIAC this season, earning her MIAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
- At the Dodd Road Diving Invitational, Maya Thomas ’28 won the 1-meter dive with a score of 168.70.
Men’s track and field breaks mile record
- The men’s track and field team followed their nautical peers to the UMN on Feb. 7, this time for the Gopher Classic.
- John Ihrke ’28 headlined the day for the Scots with his school-record-breaking mile performance. His 4:15.66 finish earned him sixth in the race and is the third-best time in the MIAC this season.
- Quinn Hoisington ’27 finished second in the unseeded mile race in 4:20.93, which is the eighth-best time in program history.
- Henry Schonebaum ’26 finished third in the 600 meter dash and ran a personal best time of 23.67 in the 200.
Women’s track and field breaks 400 record
- Ariella Rogahn-Press ’28 attended the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite in Lincoln, Neb. on Feb. 6, where she ran the 400 meter dash in 54.60, once again shattering her own school record by almost 1.5 seconds. That time is the best in the country this year and the sixth-best in Division III history, naming her MIAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.
- The women’s track and field team also participated in the Gopher Classic at the UMN on Feb. 7.
- Kate Fox ’28 placed fourth in the mile with a 5:13.81 finish.
