- Despite the lopsided final, this game was close for the entire 1st half. The Scots led 27-24 with 2 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter, but the Beavers rattled off nine straight points going into the break and never looked back.
- Mary Daley ’27 scored fifteen points on 6/12 from the field, leading the Scots.
- The team looked to rebound on Monday as they visited the Martin Luther College Knights.
- The Scots jumped out to an early 18-6 lead after the 1st frame. The Knights rebounded in the 2nd, pulling to within two before half. The Knights continued their momentum into the 3rd quarter, and suddenly, MLC led by six going into the 4th.
- Some last-second heroics by Faith Accardo ’29, who finished with 23 points, kept the game close down the stretch. The Scots fell 71-67 in heartbreaking fashion.

Football’s final effort falters despite strong second-half
- The career of 19 Mac seniors didn’t end the way they had envisioned, as the Scots fell to the Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties 38-14 on Saturday.
- After a scoreless first fourteen minutes, the Gusties took over and ended a long drive with a rushing touchdown with thirty seconds left in the first quarter.
- The Gusties continued their domination in the 2nd frame, and their lead ballooned to 17-0. The Scots had a chance to get on the board before halftime, but their field goal attempt was blocked.
- The 2nd half was more of the same. While the Scots managed to put two touchdowns on the board, the Gusties managed to outdo them by scoring three. A 100-yard pick-six with five minutes left closed the book on any chance of a late Scots comeback.
- Before the aforementioned interception, quarterback Jack Scully ’28 had an excellent day through the air. He finished with 291 yards and 2 touchdowns.
- His favorite targets were Kelly Storms ’29 and Paxton Boyd ’28, who had 116 and 93 yards receiving, respectively.

- Macalester football ended its season 3-7, a step in the right direction after last year’s winless season.
Men’s soccer advances to Sweet 16 of NCAA Division III Tournament
- What a weekend it was for Macalester men’s soccer. Playing games back to back days is no small task, but the Scots were up to the challenge and then some.
- On Saturday they hosted the Illinois Wesleyan Titans. The game started with a bang as forward Zach Liptzin ’27 recorded a beautiful goal in the 2nd minute.
- If spectators thought the early action was going to be a sign of things to come, they were sorely mistaken. The score stayed 1-0 until the 76th minute, when first-year midfield duo Milan Shah ’29 and Kuba Ferguson ’29 connected for the Scots second goal.
- This goal proved to be incredibly necessary, as the Titans scored in the 89th minute, but it ended up being too little too late.
- Just under 24 hours later, the Scots were back on the pitch to face the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds.
- After a scoreless 1st half, the Scots got on the board via a Kasdan Blattman ’27 penalty in the 62nd minute. Just two minutes later, however, the Blugolds knotted things up at 1 apiece.
- After numerous chances for both teams, the Scots finally pulled ahead in the 85th minute when Ondieki Maina ’26 buried a shot off a corner, which proved to be the winner.
- The red-hot Scots will play rival St. Olaf College in Northfield this Saturday at 1:30 pm for a chance to play in the Elite Eight.

Men’s basketball wins two, including stifling the high-flying Grinnell Pioneers
- Grinnell men’s basketball needs to be seen to be believed. They play an uber-aggressive style: they full-court press from tipoff to the final buzzer, with the goal of shooting as many shots as possible.
- The Scots jumped out to a quick fourteen-point advantage over the first eight minutes, but no lead was safe against Grinnell. They stormed back and took a 60-55 at half.
- The game stayed neck and neck for the first ten minutes of the 2nd half, thanks to some excellent three-point shooting by the Scots.
- Noah Shannon ’26 was subbed in with 10:35 left in the game, and it completely changed. He used the whistle-happy refs to his advantage, becoming a mainstay around the rim. He finished with 32 points (18 of which came from the free throw line).
- The Scots ended up winning 126-114, shutting down Grinnell’s offense which had scored 161 in their previous contest. Other Scots standouts included Ryan Brush ’26 with 25 points and Owen Walther ’29 with 21 points.
- Three days later, the team visited the University of Northwestern Eagles in a crosstown matchup.
- For much of the game, it looked like the momentum from the Grinnell win had vanished. The Scots didn’t shoot the ball well in the first half (40.54%), and they went into the break down 10.
- Luckily, Javier Diaz ’29 quickly scored eight points to spark a second-half comeback. He finished with a career high of 20. His effort off the bench plus Shannon’s 22 points propelled the Scots to a hard-fought 85-79 win.
