Women’s track boasts All-American finish
Ariella Rogahn-Press ’28 ventured to Nazareth University in Rochester, N.Y. for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 14 and 15.
Rogahn-Press competed in the 400m, winning the preliminaries on the first day in a school-record 55.97 and placing sixth in the final the next day in 56.43.
The sixth-place finish earns Rogahn-Press All-American honors. She is Macalester’s first Indoor All-American since Phoebe Aguiar ’19 won the 800m at the 2019 Indoor Championships.
Men’s track lands All-American Second Team
Arlo Heitler ’25 went with Rogahn-Press to Nazareth University, where he also competed in the 400m.
Heitler placed 12th in the preliminaries in 48.82, which earned him second team All-American honors, a mark he also achieved at the Outdoor Championships last year.
Women’s swim competes at NCAA Championships

Softball swings for grand slam in Sunshine State
The Scots took their spring break this year in Clermont, Fla. at the Legends Way and Hancock Park Ballfields, where they competed in THE Spring Games. They played 10 games plus an exhibition and finished with a 7-3 record.
Mac’s biggest win of the trip came in a 8-0 shutout over Edgewood College on March 17. With a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning, Alli Johnson ’27 stepped to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. After she worked her way around to a 3-2 count, Johnson nailed a grand slam down the right field line, the exclamation mark on a triumphant afternoon. It marked the first home run of her career.
Tess Bojorquez ’27 won MIAC Pitcher of the Week after she went 2-0 and posted an earned run average of 0.00 in four appearances and 13 2/3 innings.
Water polo has historic break
Water polo started its school hiatus in Sherman, Texas on March 15 and 16, where they went 3-1 to open conference play. The Scots then traveled to California, where they went winless against five stronger teams on March 18-22, including D-I California State University at Fullerton and D-II Concordia University Irvine.
The first day of the break, March 15, proved the most successful for Macalester. In their 17-8 drubbing of Carthage College, Jess Palmer-Sammons ’26 canned nine goals to tie the single-game Mac record for individual goals set by Catherine Flint ’12 back in 2010.
In their second game of the day, the Scots beat Augustana College (IL) 7-5. After they suffered a 0-2 opening frame, Macalester mounted a 4-0 response in the second period that provided the separation they needed to pull out a victory.
The win marks their first in program history against the Vikings, who had won the previous six matches with Mac and are the reigning back-to-back champions in the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
Men’s tennis goes 2-1 over break
Macalester visited Brunswick, Ga., Hilton Head, S.C. and Bluffton, S.C. for their spring break. Though they suffered a blank against the College of Coastal Georgia in their first dual, they won their last two. They went 4-3 against The College of Wooster and logged a blank of their own against Indiana University Southeast.
Against Wooster on March 18, Owen Lindstrom ’25 won 6-4 with Liam Lynch ’25 at second doubles before he crushed a 6-3, 2-6, 13-11 win at fifth singles. Kangyu Li ’27 posted a similar performance with a 6-1 win with Beckett Annes ’28 at third doubles and a 3-6, 6-4, 10-2 at fourth singles.
None of the matches were in-conference, as they maintain their 2-0 record and look towards a loss-less conference season.
Baseball rides wave to Arizona
The baseball team traveled to Tucson, Ariz. for their week off, where they went 3-7 at the Kino Sports Complex.
The Scots’ closest win of the week was a 21-20 rollercoaster against Winona State University on March 17. After they gained and lost a seven-point lead by the fourth inning, the Scots went back and forth with the Warriors until Winona pulled away in the ninth to take a six-point lead.
With the Warriors bearing down on them, the Scots produced an explosive final stand. They rattled off five straight runs before their first out to bring them within a point. Then, Raymond McCaskey ’26 singled to bring Niko Alexander ’26 home to tie it, and Holden Peacock ’27 hit the walk-off to bring Isaiah Ramirez ’27 to plate.
Cam Scholl ’25 claimed MIAC Pitcher of the Week for his five-hit shutout in the Scots’ 7-0 defeat of Wesleyan University on March 12. Scholl pitched all nine innings for the first time in his career. He struck out seven and walked one.
Women’s tennis goes south
These Scots played in four non-conference duals over the break, where they went 1-3. They played their first match in Brunswick, Ga. on March 15 then visited Hilton Head, S.C. for the rest of their trip.
Mac’s lone win of their vacation came in a 4-3 victory over Indiana University Southwest on March 17. Savannah Haugen ’26, Elizabeth Trevathan ’26 and Greta Laurel ’28 all went undefeated that day.
Trevathan and Haugen posted a 6-2 win together at first doubles before Trevathan won 6-3, 6-0 at first singles and Haugen won 7-5, 6-2 at second singles.
Laurel won 6-2 at third doubles with Berkley Cox ’28 and at sixth singles (6-1, 6-1).
