Men’s basketball secures win against St. Scholastica
- The Scots hosted the College of St. Scholastica on the Doug Bolstorff Court on Feb. 1. A strong second-half performance from Macalester powered them to a 79-76 win.
- Eric Wentz ’26 led Mac with 28 points and five boards. He scored 21 of his points in the second half as he went 6-of-8 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. JP Kerrigan ’28 posted a career-high 23 points to go with four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- Wentz’s scoring outburst earned him the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week award for the second time this season.
Women’s basketball splits a MIAC pair
- The women’s basketball Scots hosted two home games: one that they lost 55-76 against the College of St. Scholastica on Feb. 1, and the other that they won 64-57 against St. Catherine University on Feb. 5.
- Peyton Starks ’25 led the Scots against the Saints with 21 points, eight rebounds and five steals before she fouled out.
- Against the Wildcats Mary Daley ’27 posted a career-high 17 points along with six rebounds, and Starks posted an identical statline.
Women’s tennis drops first bout of new year
- Mac hosted the University of Wisconsin-Superior for a non-conference matchup on Feb. 1 to open their spring schedule, and the Scots left with a 5-2 loss.
- Savannah Haugen ’26 and Elizabeth Trevathan ’26 registered the Scots’ only two points of the day, with wins at first and second singles respectively.
- They also won together on first doubles. The Scots unfortunately earned nothing from the victory as in non-conference play this season, the team that wins the majority of the doubles matches gets one point.
Men’s tennis shines in 2025 debut
- The University of Wisconsin-Superior visited Macalester at the Baseline Tennis Center on Feb. 1 to open the 2025 schedule. There, the Scots tallied their first victory of the new year on a slim 4-3 margin.
- Owen Lindstrom ’25 and Beckett Annes ’28 each went undefeated on the day. They won at fifth and sixth singles respectively, and Lindstrom combined with Lucas Wood ’25 to win at second doubles, while Annes combined with Kangyu Li ’27 to win at third doubles.
- The win marks the first of Interim Head Coach Chase Johnson’s Scot tenure.
Men’s track and field competes in Mankato
- Macalester attended the Mark Shuck Open & Multi at the Myers Field House in Mankato on Feb. 1, where they excelled against high-level teams, including some Division I schools.
- The top Mac performers for the day were Reece McKee ’25, Tyler Edwards ’25 and Nick Ihrke ’25, who took the top three spots in the 5000m, with McKee leading the way at 15:06.43 and Edwards and Ihrke placing second and third, respectively.
- John Ihrke ’28 took second in the 800m with a 1:58.56 finish that ranks ninth in program history.
Women’s track and field sets new school record at Mark Shuck
- The Mark Shuck Open & Multi on Saturday in Mankato, Minn. saw the Scots set yet another program record, as Ariella Rogahn-Press ’28 broke her own school record in the 400m with a time of 56.67.
- Ivy Coldren ’27 claimed second in the 5000m in 19:05.35. In the field, Tessa Myatt ’27 registered a new personal best of 2778 in the pentathlon, which included a shot put throw that placed first with a reach of 11.99m.
Women’s swim and dive wins 10 at Hamline
- The Macalester women’s swive squad visited Hamline for the Piper Red Invite on Feb. 1, where they won 10 events over the Pipers in an unscored meet.
- Caroline Chapon ’25 dominated the day with wins in the 50-yard freestyle (25.95), 100-yard backstroke (1:04.76) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.15).
- Multiple Scots had two wins in individual events. Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton ’26 won the 100-yard freestyle (57.11) and the 200-yard IM (2:15.54). Claire Stretanski ’27 won the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.97) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:50.05). On the boards, Kate Yehle ’25 won the 1-meter (196.55) and 3-meter (199.40) dives.
Men’s swive contingent competes at Piper Red Invite
- A herd of four Scots took a trip down Snelling Avenue to participate in Hamline’s Piper Red Invite on Saturday for an unscored competition.
- Charles Batsaikhan ’25 went three-for-three on the day with wins in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.11), 100-yard freestyle (50.95) and 200-yard IM (2:04.38).
- Peter Simpson ’27 placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.78).
- Diver Dylan Herlihy ’26 earned second in the 1-meter (181.35) and 3-meter (187.30). Devin Chii ’25 accompanied him in third in the 1-meter (105.00).
