We stopped three people in the CC to ask them questions that REALLY matter to the Macalester community. We learned, mostly, that these nice people have to work on ignoring weird people stopping them to ask questions.

How do you feel about Pope Francis’s visit and the media coverage surrounding it?

Therese Deslippe ’18: I’m from Pennsylvania, from near Philadelphia. I hope his visit brings more attention to Philadelphia because there’s a lot of great things happening there such as 15 Now, there’s a strong socialist alternative presence there, too. Hopefully the Pope says something about that, about anti-capitalism. But it’s also shutting the whole city down and making it hard for workers, so that’s bad.

Why are you most excited for fall?

Jennifer Arnold ’19: I’m super excited about the colder weather, I love winter! A lot of people hate winter and think I’m completely crazy, but I cannot wait until it gets cold. I come from an area that’ s very cold at times, it’ s very seasonal, so whenever it’ s cold, I love
curling up with a hot chocolate and a book in my blankets and not wanting to get out of bed in the morning. That’ s what I’m looking forward to the most. I cannot wait.

Robert Lin ’17: I’m excited for the roundtable on education. I’m excited for Laverne Cox to come, and Sherman Alexie. There are really cool events going on!
