Upcoming Events in the DML

Today, American studies will host a “Beyoncé Party” in Neill 113 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. This event is a gearing-up for the “Black Feminism in Today’s Pop Culture” Rap Sessions Panel being held on March 12 by the American studies Department. There will be pizza, Beyoncé music videos, and black feminist trivia.

On Monday, Sarah Mirk, the online editor of Bitch Media, will perform a speech entitled “Speak Up, Make Change,” in the Harmon Room of the library from noon to 1 p.m.

At the Cultural House on Tuesday, there will be “An(Other) Story Circle” held from 11:30 am to 1 pm. This story circle’s topic is “Grappling with Heterosexism.”

On Wednesday, March 10, Zerlina Maxwell’s keynote speech for Women’s History Month, which is also part of the SPEAK! Series, will be held in the Hill Ballroom starting at 7:30 p.m. The topic of her speech is “Recognizing and Ending Rape Culture.” Maxwell’s political advocacy efforts focus on the study of rape culture as it functions in the everyday and in media/popular culture, and the movement towards ending rape culture.

As part of the “This Matters @ Mac: Continued Conversations” series, a discussion of “Drinking, Dating, & Casual Encounters” will be held on the second floor of the Cultural House on Thursday, March 12, from noon to 1 p.m. This event will provide a venue to talk about how drinking is incorporated into our college experiences, particularly in the context of making sexual decisions.
