On February 13th, an article using the phrase “his or her” was printed by The Mac Weekly, language which reinforces the idea of the gender binary and is exclusionary. We sincerely apologize for this serious mistake and its erasure of nonbinary members of our community. As a News team, we would like to publicly renew our commitment to use an individual’s personal gender pronouns correctly, and, as in the case of the aforementioned article, use the singular “they” in the case of a hypothetical person for which their gender is not specified. We hope that, in doing so, we can make further crucial steps towards creating a more inclusive campus.
