Student government VP resigns

By Matt Day

Macalester College Student Government Vice President Chloe Mirzayi ’10 resigned Sept. 24, and MCSG is holding an election to fill the position. “Chloe’s resignation is something that we’re all sad about, but we all support her in her decision,” MCSG President Alison Tray ’09 said. “We still look forward to working with her, even if she’s not officially a part of the MCSG team.”

Mirzayi detailed the reasons for her resignation in an e-mail to The Mac Weekly.

“I decided to resign because the stresses of my rigorous course load, my personal life, my job as an RA in Kirk, and my position as vice president combined were taking a toll on my health,” Mirzayi said.

“After consulting with my counselor, a doctor, and Dean of Students Jim Hoppe, I decided that the best course of action was for me to resign from MCSG to focus on me and my other commitments for the semester,” she said. “It was nothing wrong with MCSG, it was just me biting off more than I could chew.”

Tray said an election would be held to replace Mirzayi on Thursday. The deadline for candidates to file for election is 4:30 p.m. today. Tray said interested students should submit a filing form in the marked envelope next to the MCSG office door on the second floor of the Campus Center.

Vice presidential duties include managing the MCSG office staff, chairing the External Relations Commission, and conducting elections.

Tray said the new vice president will have to “hit the ground running,” with a variety of responsibilities that correspond with the Board of Trustees meeting Oct. 9-11.

Hello there! Do you know if they make any plugins to protect against hackers? I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard on. Any recommendations?
