Print of the Week: "Zap" by Mari Mejia '11
April 3, 2009
By Nicole Simpkins
Title: “ZAP!”Artist: Marichel Mejia ’11
Process: “The yellow explosion in the background is done in relief: I carved into a linoleum block, inked it up, and then transferred the image ontopaper. The black Subcommandante Marcos figure is screen printed on top of the relief image.
Artist’s statement: “This is not only a tribute to one of my heroes, Subcomandante Marcos, but also to all the Zapatistas and indigenous communities struggling to assert their human dignity in the face of economic exploitation, political neglect, and repression. Wikipedia the ‘EZLN’ or the ‘Zapatistas’ and get ready for a box of social justice magic.”

Good site! I really love how it is simple on my eyes and the data are well written. I am wondering how I might be notified when a new post has been made. I’ve subscribed to your RSS feed which must do the trick! Have a great day!
