Hispanic Studies professor resigns; second this yearBy Matthew Stone

Adding to a set of recent resignations, Hispanic Studies Professor Rogelio Miñana announced this week that he will not return after this semester. MiAñana will teach at Mount Holyoke College. He received tenure from Macalester last year.

MiAñana is the second Hispanic Studies professor to resign this semester. Maria Elena Cepeda, Macalesterƒ?TMs sole Latino Studies specialist, resigned last month. She is teaching at Williams College.

MiAñana, like Cepeda, cited low support for Latino Studies from a ƒ?oeminorityƒ?? of Hispanic Studies faculty for his resignation. He also noted the departure of multiple minority faculty members and the resignation of Dean of Multicultural Life Joi Lewis.

ƒ?oeI sincerely hope for a swift and vigorous response from the institution as a whole to this dismaying situation,ƒ?? MiAñana wrote Wednesday in his resignation letter.
