King Bell, a Café Mac employee and student favorite, was taken by ambulance to Regions hospital with bacterial pneumonia Aug. 31. Known simply as “King” to students, he regularly goes out of his way in greeting students and asking them about their days. “Out of the 1,200 students on the meal plan, he must know 1,000 names,” said Theresa Cianni, board manager at Café Mac. “Students love him.”
King was taken to Regions hospital Sunday night and placed in intensive care. He was officially listed in stable condition Wednesday night, Cianni said.
Cianni said Café Mac employees were informed of his hospitalization in a meeting Wednesday. The staff bought him a blue Macalester bear and a card from the Highlander Store.
The Mac Weekly-and the hundreds of Macalester students, faculty, and staff whose days are improved by King’s kindness-wish him a speedy recovery.
