Annie Borton ’07 has been named to the NSCAA/Adidas All-American team, the second year in a row the junior forward has been honored.

“It’s pretty cool,” Borton said. “Being on the first team is a huge honor.”

This year, Borton continued her stellar career by scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists. She was named to the first team squad for her efforts. After scoring 20 goals last year, Borton was selected to the All-American second team. She led the team to the NCAA quarterfinals both years.

That gives her 42 scores in her three years, and puts her fifth on the all-time list at Mac.

Borton’s selection marks the 14th straight year Mac has had at least one soccer All-American. Last year, Borton was joined by defender Erin Hoople ’05.

Borton is the only player from the MIAC to be named to the All-American list this year on the women’s side. For the men, Gustavus Adolphus midfielder Bobby Kroog ’06 was selected as an All-American for the third year in a row.

SEXY, Sex Olympics

At long last sex took its rightful place in the realm of sports at Macalester’s first ever Sex Olympics, hosted by Winton Health Services SEXY (Students Educating X’s and Y’s) program. Featuring an abundance of condom related events, a group of 50 people, largely comprised of first-year girls, competed for safe sex supremacy.
Forming teams with names like “toxic shock syndrome” and “team SEXY,” contestants showed off their ability to dress a cucumber with a condom, pin dental dams on an artistically rendered genitalia while blind folded, and fake an orgasm.
Truly at the forefront of their field, these Olympic athletes performed their extraordinary tasks with remarkable skill.
Foremost among competitors was Juhia Vraspir ’06, Macalester’s safe sex MVP. Excelling in all contests, Vraspir cinched her title with a stellar imitation of an orgasm.

“I was a little nervous at first,” said Vraspir of the contest, “but you just have to go with what feels right.”

While Vraspir, and in fact all the Olympic athletes, must be considered winners since everyone who competed got a prize, the real champion of the night was clearly safe sex education.

Vraspir summed up the lessons from the competition succinctly. “Good sex has to be planned.”

Charity from SAAC

In keeping with the holiday spirit, Macalester’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) held a charity fundraiser Wednesday, at the Men’s basketball game.
The event, which included a raffle and the sale of old athletic gear, raised nearly $400 for charity.

That money will go toward purchasing toys for under-privileged teens.
