I write this at six o’clock AM Sunday night (Monday morning?), with no sleep and no chance of stopping for breath until, well, tomorrow morning at six o’clock. And I’m not the only one.

As students, we often get caught up in the over-achievement whirlwind, so hectically busy we forget ourselves. Sometimes slowing down or even expressing anxiety, anger or depression seems an act of defeat. In reality, we’re all just looking for a place to let loose.

Starting today, the entire student population is invited to anonymously share their mental health experiences, woes, and triumphs at macmentality.tumblr.com. Furnished by the MPIRG Gender and Sexuality Task Force, MacMentality serves both as an emotional outlet and awareness forum for campus mental health issues.

But we need your input. How have you experienced mental healing on campus? Conversely, how has Macalester challenged your stability? Have you sought treatment through HWC therapy, or even been turned away due to lack of resources? Whether you are struggling or simply reflecting, able to receive treatment or not, everyone has a story to share. Half the battle is realizing that we are not alone.

So take some time to breathe, and to feel. I’m trying to. That is, I will at six o’clock tomorrow morning.
