I need to respond to several errors that were published in the article about the library on March 3. To begin, the plan to renovate the second level of the library includes making space for the Entrepreneurship Program. This is because we think of the entrepreneurship program “space” as more in line with our plan to include space for innovation, creativity, and maker spaces along with enhanced teaching spaces. It is correctly reported that Angi Faiks described this space a “everything from a quiet reflective space…to the maker’s space and tinker space.” These are all elements that intersect with the goals of the Entrepreneurship Program. The floor will include spaces for study along with other functions.
Second, since I received an email from [a Mac Weekly writer]* requesting time to speak to me, I made an assumption that he would be able to get my name correct, as it Library Director Terri, not “Teri Angel” as published in your article.
Third, in responding to the expressions of concern by a few of the students present who were seeing only negative connotations around the term “entrepreneurship” my response was more extensive than what was reported. As I shared at that session, entrepreneurship represents many positive aspects for student opportunities to develop creative projects that are often focused on social justice issues not just on “making money.” As reported in the same issue of the MacWeekly, this aspect of creativity is represented in the Macathon and Funkathon. These are creative activities that we hope to help foster in our new spaces on Level 2.
We encourage all students to contribute their thoughts about the future of the library and we expect to be holding more information gathering sessions after midterm break. We hope others will joins us in discussing how to make Level 2 the best it can be to enhance the student experience.
*Editors note: We as an editorial staff have omitted the writer’s name, because we take responsibility for our fact-checking.
