Sana Naz ’16: PB Chair

My name is Sana and I hope to be your Program Board Chair for the coming semester. I have valuable experience with Program Board since I currently hold the position of Student Manager, and therefore I know the organization necessary to put on a successful PB event. Additionally, my role as Office Manager has allowed me to participate and collaborate with different PB Coordinators on their various events and really gain insight on the overall budgeting, organizing and advertising process. I strive to be very involved on campus, and have assumed several leadership positions here that have given me the organizational and leadership skills required to succeed as PB Chair. This year, I was an Orientation Leader and Sophomore Leader for Lives of Commitment. These positions trained me to facilitate discussions, assume responsibility and successfully work with a team to organize campus-wide events. I want to be Program Board Chair because I simply enjoy the work I do for PB now, value their commitment and genuine efforts to really produce good programming for our student body and believe I am the strongest candidate to assume this position.

To actually incorporate student opinion and feedback on different events, to collaborate with other student orgs and departments, to coordinate successful planning of events of a diverse nature that cater to the needs of every student, to efficiently use student activity fee to improve Winter Ball, Springfest, Welcome Week, are some of my goals for PB. If you attended Halfway to Holi or Friends and Ice-cream Sundae night, I organized those! This year too, I am planning a particular Orientation event with campus staff.

My name is Erin Slater, a junior here at Mac, and I want to be chosen as your next Program Board Chair! I have been a part of PB for the last two years, the first year, I was Office Manager and this year, I am your Off Campus Events Coordinator. These two different roles have given me a breadth and depth of experience that has equipped me with the tools needed to be a successful PB Chair. I am also extremely passionate about the work and place that PB has on campus. I want to make the campus a better, more inclusive space by way of organizing awesome events for you all. In addition to my experience as a member of PB, I have also been on the college’s softball team during the entirety of my time at Mac. Through participating in athletics, I have learned many valuable leadership skills as well as how to work effectively in a team. Now, enough about me, what will I do for you? I really want to make PB a collaborative and welcoming space for all students and orgs on campus. If I am elected, I want to encourage more collaboration between PB and other orgs because I strongly believe we can both be greater if we work together. I also don’t think that collaboration should be limited to just orgs. I want to make sure that students with ideas for events feel comfortable coming to talk to me, or another member of the board, about a great idea they have for an event. I want to make the Macalester community a better place.

Jennie Kim ’15: FAC Chair

I’m Jennie Kim and I want to be your next Chair of the Financial Affairs Committee, affectionately known as FAC. As the FAC Chair, I along with eight other students would decide on how to best distribute the student activities fee amongst orgs and serve as a support system for orgs along with the SOC (Student Organizations Committee).

I’m running for FAC Chair because I love student orgs. The student org culture here is what makes our campus such a unique one, even within the liberal arts community. I want to help make orgs at Mac as successful as they can be. With constructive criticism and collaboration, I hope to mitigate annoyances, both major and minor, in hopes to be able to find an efficient and fair way to conduct business.

While some of you may accuse me of being a career politician (and had gone so far as to threaten a smear campaign against me), I’ve truly enjoyed my time as a class rep and am more than ready to take my commitment to the next level in an executive capacity. Thanks much in advance, and make sure you vote!
