Men’s Soccer comes up short against MIAC & WIAC
- The Scots traveled down to Northfield, Minn. for their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opener against St. Olaf College.
- Despite outshooting their opponent in the first half, the opening goal was too much to overcome and Mac couldn’t find an answer through the first forty-five.
- The Scots punched back in the opening of the second half after Ondieki Maina ’26 found the back of the net in the first ten minutes off a feed from Gaven Johnson ’28.
- The Oles responded with a quick score of their own, which left the Scots down for the count and put the match out of reach.
- Despite getting slightly edged in shots, the Scots put up two more attempts on goal, but were unable to sneak an equalizer past the St. Olaf keeper.
- The University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire came to town on Wednesday and took over John Leaney pitch with a solid 1-0 defeat of the Scots.
- It was a tough week for the Scots, as they dropped two consecutive matches for the first time this year.
- They will look to bounce back and defend home turf against Carleton College (no fun trophies on the line for this one though.)
Volleyball says goodbye to preseason
- To wrap up their preseason slate, the Scots hit the road to face off against the University of Chicago and the University of Dubuque, two teams that received votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association top 25 poll.
- Outside hitter Adonia Anene ’28 was captain of the ship for the Scots, notching 15 kills and four service aces en route to a 3-1 victory over The University of Chicago.
- Right side Avery Rahe ’26 also shone for the Scots, logging 14 kills on the stat sheet to help power Mac’s offense.
- The Scots secured the win in set four behind a strong defensive effort led by Sydney Stratton ’26, who rejected three attempts. She led the Scots’ defense in holding UChicago to just a .114 hitting percentage in the match.
- Setter Hannah Morrow ’27 was serving them up on a silver platter for the Scots, registering 22 assists and a team high of 16 digs.
- Despite the loss to the No. 19-ranked University of Dubuque, the Scots outkilled the Spartans in 2 of the 4 sets.
- Ella Cohen-Richie ’28 logged double digit kills for the Scots, finishing with 11 on the contest, while Camilia Jones ’28 and Morrow finished with 19 and 16 digs, respectively.
- Anene’s strong performance earned her one of 12 spots on the All-Tournament Team.
Women’s Soccer drops tough conference clash
- The Scots journeyed to Northfield for a matchup with St. Olaf College, where an early goal dug them into a hole they couldn’t crawl out of.
- The Scots ultimately dropped the game 0-2, but St. Olaf is ranked no. 5 in the region and will be a contender for the MIAC crown
- Forward Lindsay Edmonson ’29 scraped together the Scots’ lone shot on goal, a top right strike that was saved by the keeper.
- Mac is back in action on Saturday with theirMIAC home opener against Carleton College.
Minor Setback for a Major Women’s Golf Comeback
- In their last tune-up before MIAC championship week, the Scots took to Eagle Valley Golf Course to shoot for the St. Kate’s Fall Invite, where they finished 5th out of 12 representing teams.
- Yangyang Gu ’29 led the Scots with a two-round score of +8, 152 to earn a tie for 9th place on the weekend.
- Bailey Lengfelder ’26 was right behind Gu, after a +9 earned her a 14th-place finish.
- The Scots will be back at Breamar Golf Course from Oct. 4-6, only this time with a MIAC championship up for grabs.
Men’s Golf not quite on par
- In their last competition before MIAC Championships, the Scots took to St. Cloud, Minn. to compete in the Saint Johns Fall Invitational. The course wasn’t too kind to them, resulting in a 15th place finish.
- Ray Zhang ’28 rounded out the weekend, shooting an even 72, with fellow teammate Harry Cheng ’28 trailing just three strokes behind him.
Scots stupefied in the Book of Knowledge Game
- In their first conference test, the Scots were the third Mac team to travel to Northfield, Minn. for a rivalry matchup with the Carleton Knights.
- The Scots lone touchdown of the day came on a 12-play, 71-yard drive, where sophomore duo Paxton Boyd ’28 and Jack Scully ’28 connected for a 32-yard house call.
- Boyd now has three touchdowns throughout the Scots’ first two games, all on throws from Scully.
- Defensively, Jason Weaver ’27 led the Scots with five tackles, one of those being for a loss, while Boaz Lieberman ’27 also logged four tackles to go along with a forced fumble that was recovered by Diego Augustin ’27.
- The Scots are back in action this Saturday as they look to get back in the win column against St. Scholastica.
Women’s cross country continues strong campaign
- The Scots had a solid showing at the Roy Griak invitational, where they competed against mostly Division II and NAIA schools.
- Macalester came in seventh as a team, with Ingrid Norquist ’27 coming across the finish line first for the Coos, checking in at 16th overall. Kate Fox ’28 was right behind her, the only other Scot in the top 50 at 28th overall.
- The Scots held their spot at sixth in the regional rankings for the second week in a row.
- They’ll return to action on Oct. 3 in Colfax, Wis. for the Blugold Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire. (UWEC)
Men’s cross country drops a spot in regional rankings
- Despite finishing first out of all Division III schools at the Roy Griak invitational, the Scots sank one whole spot to eighth in the North Region rankings as UWEC entered the rankings at sixth.
- John Ihrke ’28 led the way for the Scots, securing a 34th place finish. Chase Fitterer ’29 came in just behind him in 36th, rounding out the Scots that made the top 50.
- They’ll travel with the women to the Blugold Invitational in Colfax, Wis.
