Volleyball hosts Macalester Invitational
• The Scots welcomed four teams onto the Doug Bolstorff Court for the Macalester Invitational this weekend where they went 1-2 overall to bring their record to 2- 8 on the season. • Mac started the weekend with a loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stout (3-1) and to Simpson College (3- 0). A cross those seven set s, MiLani Terrell ’27 posted 20 kills and Adonia Anene ’28 posted 15 .
• In their third and final game agains t Caltech, Macalester finally found its groove with a 3-0 sweep. Middle blocker Alia Sherrow ’27 delivered back-to-back kills in the firs t set to secure the 26-24 vic tory. The Scot s cruised to an easy second set win before another 24-24 tie set them up for a Beaver at tack error and an Avery Rahe ’26 kill to close the match.
• Against Caltech, Anene posted 12 kills along with an ace and three blocks, while Rahe posted 10 kills and two blocks. Camilla Jones ’28 logged 19 assists and 10 digs, while Hannah Morrow ’27 logged 13 assists and 16 digs.
• The Scots will take on the University of Dubuque and the University of Chicago in Northfield, Minn. on September 20th in their final games before Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play begins.
Men’s Cross Country wins Hamline Invite
• Macalester visited the Highland National Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 12 for the Hamline University Invitational. There, they won their second meet in as many tries this season with 45 point s.
• The Scots’ top five all finished bet ween seventh and 11th places, separated by 20 seconds total. Donovan Connole ’29 led the herd in seventh with a 27:17.3 finish, just before Daniel Wiltse ’27 who finished in 27:17.4.
• Behind them were Chase Fitterer ’29, Jordan Galloway ’26 and Owen Lafferty ’27. Just 2.8 seconds behind Lafferty came Caleb Hatlevig ’28 to take 13th place.
• The MIAC Cross Country Championships will take place at this course on Nov. 1.
• Macalester ranks seventh in Division III’s North Region as of Sept. 16. and will look to climb after their scalding start.
Women’s XC seals season’s second second
• At the Hamline University Invitational last Friday, the women’s cross country team took second place for the second time this season in their second meet. The Scots scored 68 points to finish behind Carleton College.
• Mac placed four runners in the top 14, starting with Ingrid Norquist ’27 in seventh place (22:40.9) and Kate Fox ’28 in eighth (23:01.6). Samantha Ellis ’27 and Ivy Coldren ’27 placed 13th and 14th, respectively, and Aubrey Jensen ’29 placed 26th to round out Macalester’s top five.
• Macalester now ranks sixth in Division III’s North Region — the first time they’ve earned a regional rank since 2022.
Men’s soccer whistles past Wesleyan
• The Scots continued their winning ways on Saturday, Sept. 13 when Nebraska Wesleyan University visited John Leaney Field. Macalester dispatched the Prairie Wolves 2-0. The loss is Wesleyan’s first of the season.
• After a first half where the Scots held an 83 – 17 possession advantage but failed to score, they broke the seal in the 53rd minute when midfielder Kasdan Blattman ’27 sent a crosser into the box for defender Nick Kent ’26 to knock it in. Blattman also assisted Mac’s insurance goal right before time expired when his free kick led to a midfielder Milan Shah ’29.
• These goals mark the second of both Kent’s and Shah’s career.
• Goalkeepers Drew Moseman ’27 and Justin Ratner ’29 traded off in-net duties to keep the Prairie Wolves’ scoresheet blank and help Macalester secure an 11-8 edge in shots. The Scots have held opposing teams scoreless in four out of their six games to start the season
Women’s soccer wins big, loses small, loses big
• Macalester women’s soccer played three games in the last week and went 1-2.
• In a non-conference battle with Bethel University on Sept. 11, it was non-stop Scots. It took less than four minutes for forward Adi Nhouyvanisvong ’27 to send a ball across to midfielder Abbey Birkey ’27 to tap it in. Nhouyvanisvong scored a goal of her own later in the half from 25 yards out on a pass from Nisha Wetter ’29. Evelyn Savoie ’29 assisted Mikayla Edmunds ’29 on the Scots’ third and final goal of the half.
• Erica Hamilton ’28 sent a ball to Lindsay Edmonson ’29 for the first goal of the second half. Edmonson returned the favor to Hamilton for the final goal of the game.
• The Scots were less successful against Wartburg College on Saturday, Sept. 13. The Knights scored the first and final goal of the game in the 12th minute and never looked back. Goalkeeper Abigail Heuga ’27 made her season debut returning from injury, logging six saves in the first half before Lily Salazar ’28 took over for her in the second and logged a save of her own.
• It started with a Julia Hanson ’27 goal in the 72nd minute, but then the tide turned towards the Wildcats. St. Kate’s followed Hanson’s goal with a score of their own less than a minute later. All told, they scored four goals in twelve minutes to down Mac 4-1.
Men’s golf lands fifth in Hartford
• The Scots on the green ventured to the Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wis. for the Wisconsin Lutheran Fall Invitational this weekend, where they placed fifth with a two-round score of 606. That score is the second-lowest in program history for a 36-hole tournament.
• Ray Zhang ’29 led Macalester with a pair of 73s for a fourth place tie at +2 146. Aaron Cheng ’28 logged a +5 149 for an 11th-place tie, and one shot behind him, Ben d’Entremont ’26 tied for 15th.
Women’s golf wins (again)
• For the second time in three outings this season, Macalester women’s golf won a tournament. This time, they did it with a school-record +32 608 score to oust 18 teams at Gustavus Adolphus College’s D3 Golf Classic at Emerald Greens in Hastings, Minn. this weekend.
• Bailey Lengfelder ’26 once again led the charge for Mac with a 71 on Saturday and a 74 on Sunday to tie for first place and tie her own record in a 36-hole tournament. Ava Austria ’28 and Yangyang Gu ’29 tied for 10th with identical +9 153 scores. Mia Cluff ’28 finished 17th with a two-round score of 157.
