While our illustrious bracketologist got the final pick right, he wasn’t our strongest challenger in The Mac Weekly’s exclusive bracket challenge. The winner of both the men’s and women’s bracket challenges was (drumroll please)…
L DUB!!
A.K.A. Ad Manager Lucy Wing ’26.
“Honestly, I didn’t expect to win either bracket,” Wing said. “I picked [based] off vibes, and I guess that was the way to go, because it paid off.”
Our weakest bracketeer completed a sweep of her own, as she came in last place in both challenges after picking exclusively Arizona-based teams. Tough luck for Puzzle Editor Sayuri Cumaranatunge ’27. “Honestly, I don’t feel like I gimmicked that hard, so it was surprising to lose both,” she said.
She managed 10.6 percent accuracy in the men’s bracket and 8.2 percent in the women’s. Cumaranatunge even placed behind Mila Petit ’27, who took 12-seed Ball State all the way to the title because “ball” was in their school name.
Over both tournaments, the sports section’s average placement was 8.25. Both Sports Editors’ men’s brackets were beaten by Editor-in Chief Noah Riccardi’s ’25 first-name favoring bracket.
Other notable contenders included Vice President for Student Affairs, Kathryn Kay Coquemont, who placed 10th and 11th. That means that pretty much every competitor besides our puzzler can approach her for the mysterious prize cited by her Instagram story. If that sounds vague, ask Coquemont.
As for The Mac Weekly’s prize ($$$?) Wing manages The Mac Weekly’s finances, so, after great deliberation, the Sports Editorial Board has determined that she can just take as much cash as she wants.
