Men’s swive swim swiftly in the Windy City
- On Nov 22-24, five men’s swim Scots traveled to Chicago for the Phoenix Fall Classic, a seven-team meet featuring three DIII nationally ranked squads.
- Tommy Moore ’27 was the highlight of these Scots’ exploits in the windy city, improving his own school record in the 100-yard freestyle. He also teamed with Kean James Pajarillaga ’28, Charles Batsaikhan ’25 and Max Taufen ’28 to set a new 400-yard medley relay record, and with Pajarillaga, Batsaikhan and Isaac Kisker ’25 to set a new 200-yard medley school record.
- While five Scots swimmers featured in the Chicago meet, the rest traveled to St. Peter, Minn. on Nov. 23 to swim at Gustavus Adolphus College. TJ Palli ’26 was a double podium earner for the Scots, getting second in the 100-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Women’s swim splits squads, succeeds
- On the weekend of Nov. 22-24, six Scots swam in the Chicago-held Phoenix Fall Classic, while the rest swam in Gustavus Adolphus College’s Grace Goblirsch invite. In Chicago, Molly Nuckolls ’28 made waves besting Macalester’s 200-yard butterfly record.
- In St. Peter, two Scots found themselves double winners, with Hannah Zurn ’26 winning the freestyle mile and the 400-yard IM and Maya Tellez ’28 winning the 200- and 500-yard freestyle swims. The Scots finished the meet second overall, out of six competitors.
Men’s hoops 1-3, Wentz with 40 at Grinnell
- The men’s basketball Scots went 1-3 over the past two weeks, beating University of Wisconsin-Stout at home, and falling in their conference opener in the Leonard Center against Hamline University.
- Noah Shannon ’25 powered the Scots to the win, stuffing the hoop to the tune of 25 points and grabbing 15 rebounds to complete a double-double. In that contest, the Scots jumped out to a 52-32 lead at the half, far too much for Stout to overcome as the Scots took a, 88-72 win into the Thanksgiving break.
- Earlier that week, Eric Wentz had a feast of his own, dropping 40 points in the losing effort away at Grinnell College. Wentz also went for a double-double, hauling in 14 rebounds along with his impressive points haul.
- In their MIAC opener at home against Hamline on Dec. 4, the Scots couldn’t continue their winning ways coming out of the break, falling 85-70.
Women’s basketball 1-1 at home, plays Tommies showcase
- In the home St. Paul Invitational, the Scots played a four-team bracket tournament. They opened against North Central University, winning their Friday match 43-38 with 10 points from Peyton Starks ’25 and four steals apiece from Sydnee Smith ’27 and Mary Daley ’27, shutting down a late North Central comeback attempt to advance to the final.
- Against Colorado College, the Scots led going into the half but ran out of gas, falling 62-57. Starks and Katherine Norquist ’25 had 17 and 16 points respectively.
- Just before the break, the Scots rekindled their Summit Ave rivalry with an exhibition game against DI St. Thomas University, where they fell to their former MIAC rivals 84-43, with Starks scoring an efficient 21 points. And then they got milkshakes!
