The Macalester College Student Government (MCSG) Legislative Body (LB) meets every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. The following is a summary of what took place at this week’s meeting, provided by the Student Services and Relations Committee.
Financial Affairs Committee Allocations
Approved Europa’s budget of $2,640, which will fund a screening of the Cannes Film Festival, an European food fest, and a Sensation dance party in 10K.
Approved the Middle Eastern North African Association (MENAA)’s budget of $992.
Approved $1,700 to Macalester Association for Sub-Continental Ethnic and Cultural Awareness (MASECA) to fund their Diwali/Eid dinner.
Approved $650 to Macalester Martial Arts Club (MMAC) for an outside instructor to teach a weekly Russian martial arts class on campus.
Take Back MCSG Week
The Student Services & Responsibility Committee updated the full LB on planning for Take Back MCSG Week, planned for Oct. 14-19. The LB Approved $610 to MCSG in order to fund food and publicity materials for the week. Look for more information about events very soon!
Upcoming Program Board Activities
Program Board’s (PB) apple picking trip for this Saturday is full! However, tickets will go on sale Tuesday for tickets to the Soap Factory Haunted House in Minneapolis for $10 each. There will also be a screening of Pacific Rim this Friday at 8:00 p.m. and two screenings of Despicable Me 2, Saturday at 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. as part of PB’s pajama party-themed Mac at Nite.

The legislative body reviewed Robert’s Rules of Order and parliamentary procedure and welcomed new Financial Affairs Committee Chair Ellen Washington ’14.
The Macalester-Groveland Community Council is distributing a survey on the future of the neighborhood as part of their 10-year plan, and Class Representative Josie Ahrens ’14 brought up the possibility of MCSG taking a role in publicizing and helping distribute the survey, in an effort to make sure student voices are heard throughout the planning process.
