Women’s Swimming and Diving is enjoying an undefeated season thus far. After competing in three competitions the women are 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in the MIAC. “This year we have several new members and we have really come together as a team. The first-years are a great addition, in both talent and personality and it looks like it will be a great season,” Captain Nancy Taff ’07 said.

The Scots began their season with a win against Wisconsin River-Falls on Oct. 27 with a score of 133-105. Taff ’07 and Katherine Heg ’10 each swam a pair of first-place finishes to lead the way for the women. Taff placed first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:24.34 as well as the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.82. Heg won the 1650-yard freestyle in 19:41.87 and 500 free with a time of 5:48.26.
On Nov. 3 the women bettered their season by winning the Hamline Quadrangular against Hamline and Augsburg, 130-112 and 192-38 respectively. Alanna Mozena ’07 and Anna Gajewski ’10 each earned first place finishes. Mozena in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving and Gajewski placed first in the 1000-free and 500 free. Other first place finishers were Kristin Meadows ’07 with a 1:06.55 clocking in the 100 butterfly and Taff in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.29.

Mac’s first home meet was Nov. 10 against St. Thomas, who the Scots lost to last season. The women topped the Tommies 128-109. The women had eight first place finishes from seven individuals. Taff won both the 200 IM in 2:37.39 and the 200-meter breaststrock in 2:53.68. Mozena ’07 won the 1-meter dive while Annie Flanagan ’09 won the 3-meter dive.
“All the divers have a lot of untapped potential, and hopefully over the next few months we will really start to show that,” Flanagan said.
Heg and DeLuca also had first place finishes in the 800 and 50 free respectively. To round out the wins Angie Marvin ’09 captured the 100 free in 1:04.95 and Alex Cortes ’09 with the breastroke in 2:35.55.
With MIAC far off in the distance the women will take on the ’05-’06 MIAC champ St. Olaf in early January and hope to place higher than their 5th place finish in ’06.

The Scots host a pair of events this weekend. On Friday they will take on MIAC rival St. Mary’s at 6 p.m. and on Saturday they will host the 10th annual Macalester Invitational, with diving at 9 a.m. and swimming at 1 p.m.
