Hooray for the Death of Mac Mondayƒ?TMs

By Mac Weekly Staff

You may (or may not) have noticed, but Macalester’s newest tradition is no more. A BIG THUMBS UP to the DEMISE OF MAC MONDAY’S!
We at The Mac Weekly have been down on Mac Monday’s, since, well, its inception, and we’re glad to see that the powers that be regained their sanity and canned this weekly high school-esque schmaltz fest.

The energy and money that went into Mac Mondays could have been put toward myriad greater causes: A tire-swing, more regular swings, a better space for Mac Bike, hundreds of library books, dozens of kegs, or a second Turck exercise room. Maybe even dozens of kegs in a second Turck exercise room.
Instead, every Monday we were met with bright orange foam fingers disingenuously boasting “We’re #1!” along with pom-poms (pom-poms?!?) and other trifles.

Until we get a cheerleading squad for the football team—read, never—pom-poms will be an unwelcome sight at Macalester. Just like Mac Monday’s was.

Café Mac, How We Missed Thee
After three years of bitching about its uninspired entrees and mediocre prepared foods, five off-campus members of the Mac Weekly’s editorial staff visited Café Mac for the first time in almost a year. Once there, they uniformly gave—one broken dish and innumerable grilled reubens later—a BIG TUHMBS UP TO CAFE MAC for its delicious food and friendly waitstaff. The tables may be utilitarian and the serving sizes may be a bit small on a few choice items, but the quality and range of Café Mac’s food sure beats the hell out of anything we could whip up in the cramped kitchens of our respective apartments. Each of us went back for an extra slice of that gooey chocolate cake—far better than Bettty Crocker and the like—and another helping of chicken curry. And more reubens. And ice cream.
We all agreed that our triumphant return to the ol’ café constituted the biggest and most delicious meal we’ve had since the last time we all hit up the Campus Center, whenever that was. And Café Mac’s student (and career!) employees added unexpected bounce to the experience—especially Brad, to whom we’d like to extend a hearty Mac Weekly shout-out. First-years, take it from us upperclassmen—you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.
