MCSG passes Omnibus Bill, discusses org funding defecits

At the MCSG Legislative Body meeting on September 27, the first order of business was voting on the Omnibus Bill. A brief discussion of an amendment that would require any legislation to be publicized to the Macalester community at least 72 hours prior to voting ended when the amendment was almost unanimously denied. After the amendment did not pass, the Omnibus Bill passed unanimously.

Second, during the executive update, the idea of a change to org funding was brought up as a future topic of discussion. It was emphasized that changing budget procedures and allocations for orgs is simply a brainstorming exercise for now, and that nothing will move forward without input from orgs. Some ideas brought up were an decrease to Flexi money or a slight increase to the student activity fee. Many of the MCSG members expressed discomfort with the idea of “devaluing” student orgs, but from the outpouring of responses it was decided that it will be further discussed at a later date.

In the middle of the meeting the different branches of MCSG offered updates, and FAC Chair Sydney Keiler ’17 gave an OrgSync presentation, similar to the one for org leaders. PB announced that it was now on Snapchat and reminded everyone about the apple picking trip coming up in two weekends. The AAC announced it will be hosting its first “Coffee and Doughnuts” social in the library on October 15 at 11 a.m., pending final approval from the library. Additionally, there was discussion about the Macalester Space Plan and high praise from the people who
went. There will be a second presentation on October 13.

The next big discussion concerned additional allocation requests for two student orgs. WMCN requested $5017.14 in additional allocations. After little debate, a final allocation of $4817.14 was passed. The items left out of the final allocation were studio stools, aux cords, paint, studio decor and a trip to the Pavek Museum of Broadcasting. The Outing Club requested $1600 for the four student-led fall break trips and $1310 to pay for new capital. Both Outing Club requests were passed unanimously.

Thanks for your publication on the traveling industry. I would also like contribute that if you’re a senior contemplating traveling, it can be absolutely imperative that you buy travel cover for senior citizens. When traveling, elderly people are at high risk of experiencing a healthcare emergency. Obtaining right insurance plan package for your age group can protect your health and give you peace of mind.
